Cataclysm Approaches; The Beta Test Is Over

Posted on November 11, 2010

With the release of World of Warcraft’s Cataclysm expansion only two weeks away, Blizzard has announced that the beta test for the latest update to Azeroth is now over. Along with that news, rumors have spread of a giant, world-changing patch hitting the game tomorrow.

Official word of the beta shutdown comes via the World of Warcraft forums, while numerous sources are reporting that the massive 4.0.3a patch will go live tomorrow. This update will bring major physical changes to WoW’s original two continents, as well as replacing many of the quests with more streamlined and hopefully more interesting content.

It will also add in the ability to play as two new races, the Goblin and Worgen, via paying to have your race changed on existing characters. Players will not be able to start new Goblin or Worgen characters until Cataclysm launches on December 7, and likewise, level 80-85 content and progression will remain locked until then.

Blizzard has not confirmed that tomorrow is the day for patch 4.0.3a, but since Tuesday is their weekly maintenance day and tomorrow will be an extended maintenance, it seems likely. In the event that Azeroth isn’t a completely different place tomorrow, look for the new changes next week on Tuesday.
