Modern Prince Of Persia Reboot Was Canceled By Ubisoft

Posted on September 9, 2010

I sometimes feel very alone in this, but I mostly enjoyed the recent, colorful Prince of Persia reboot that Ubisoft released in 2008. However, a recent interview revealed that the publisher was also working on a completely different reboot for the character taking place in a modern day setting.

Speaking to CVG, ex-Ubisoft art director Jonathan Jacques-BelletĂȘte revealed that he had been involved with “a spin-off for Prince of Persia…in contemporary time.” He described the project as “completely out of left field” and referred to it by the title “Prince of Persia Zero.” The game was “a bit Day After Tomorrow, but replace the snow with sand….”

Jacques-BelletĂȘte said that despite the project being “really wicked,” it was canceled. He also made reference to a PS2/Xbox version of the Assassin’s Creed franchise that was in the works at the time.

It’s too bad that this project will never see the light of day. Jacques-BelletĂȘte noted that next-gen Assassin’s Creed and the 2008 Prince reboot were already in the works, so they weren’t the reason behind the cancellation, although CVG speculates that Prince of Persia Zero may have been treading a little too closely to Assassin Creed’s territory.
