Music Fit for a King – Fable III Soundtrack Review

Peter Molyneux Worried About Fable III Opening Section

The Fable series has a tradition of releasing companion soundtrack albums, and Fable III is no exception.  Composer Russell Shaw returns for his third installment of music from the world of Albion.  The Feed has some sounds for your royal ears to feast upon.

Has it really been six years since gamers first set foot in Albion?  Indeed, it has.  And while the game’s world has changed over the three entries in the series, the man behind the music of Fable has stayed constant.  Russell Shaw makes his third opus of the library of Fable music with the release of Fable III‘s original soundtrack album.  This time around however, Shaw gets sole billing, as Danny Elfman did not contribute to the game’s sound.  This is in no way a bad thing, as you can hear with Shaw’s original composition for the game’s theme music.

The next piece is among one of the more high adventure sounding movements on the album.

One thing listener’s will notice right away is much of Fable III’s music is exceedingly atmospheric and almost quiet and gentle in places.  Something not often found in adventure games these days.  “Driftwood” is an excellent example of this.

This latest game soundtrack release from Sumthing Else Music Works is yet another fine example from the label of just how listenable game music can be.  The right combination of quality composition and smart album production has led to an imminently listenable album from begining to end.  Who is this release for?  Fable fans, naturally.  And if you don’t already have the OST’s for Fable and Fable II, you should consider getting the set.  They are all well worth the listen.  Soundtrack fans in general will also enjoy it and for those who need something a little less edgy to fill in the silent spaces during study or office time, this is definitely something you should consider adding to your playlist.
