Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ruined by Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds)

Posted on March 04, 2011

We’ll entertain all your gripes and criticisms about Marvel vs Capcom 3, but one complaint we simply won’t allow is anything pertaining to the music. Do you have any idea how good you’ve good it? Oh… you haven’t heard the music in Marvel vs. Capcom 2?! An acapella Nickleback song would’ve been an improvement over the biodigital, Mario Paint jazz ensemble that scored two world’s fate ten years ago. But guess what? Now we kinda miss it… Back it goes! “Gonna take you for a ride…”

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood trailer 'reveals' Raiden costume; we do it one better (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood)

Posted on December 08, 2010

Assassin’s Creed and Metal Gear have had an unusual cross-promotional relationship for a while now, what with Altair’s hooded robe and Leap of Faith showing up in Metal Gear Solid 4 and MGS: Peace Walker, respectively. So when a rumor that Raiden’s robot exoskeleton from MGS4 would appear in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood turned out to be true, we weren’t the least bit surprised. The news item even revealed how to get the costume, making it one of the few “secrets” we knew how to unlock before we’d even played the game.

Just in case you didn’t already know about it, publisher Ubisoft released a trailer today that gives the curious a brief glimpse of the costume. It’s elegant and all, but if Ubi’s going to tease stuff that’s already out, we figured we might as well go the extra mile and just show you what the publisher’s trying to be coy about…

Kickass Kratos cosplay is part cardboard Terminator, part ghostly god murderer (God of War III)

Posted on December 07, 2010

As follically-challenged former Greek gods with daddy issues go, Kratos is definitely in our top 36 favourites. But you know who’s above him? A piece of cardboard. Specifically several pieces of cardboard that have been shoved on a man to create the ultimate in boxy Kratos cosplay. Arnie’s Austrian cyborg ain’t got anything on this corrugated killer…

GamesRadar guides: Black Ops Intel and cheats, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood guides (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood)

Posted on December 06, 2010

December isn’t just physically cold, its game release schedule is pretty chilly as well. With the major studios having squeezed out most of their collective 2010 load, we’re left with only a few choice corn nuggets to remove from the brown. It’s a good thing October and November we’re so packed to the brim with good stuff that you can spend the rest of the year burning through the pile of early holiday presents you got yourself. So enjoy even more guides for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Fallout: New Vegas. I’ve linked to each game’s cheats and hints page as well, where you can find a plethora of user generated help like FAQs, easter eggs and much more.

Pokemon Black and White spotlight: Nageki and Dageki (Pokemon Black / White)

Posted on December 04, 2010

It’s no wonder that Black and White introduced two sets of Psychic/Flying Pokemon (Koromori and its evolution Kokoromori, plus Shimbora), because this generation also debuts four families of pure Fighting types (Psychic and Flying are Fighting’s two weaknesses). This week’s spotlight focuses on two vaguely related Fighting-type Pokemon that are clearly throwbacks to the original Red and Blue generation – Nageki and Dageki are the Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan of Black and White. But how do they compare?

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: Kane & Lynch to become playable. Seriously, here's the first screenshot (Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days)

Posted on December 04, 2010

Yeah, this is a thing that is happening. As part of the upcoming DLC push for their rather delightful downloadable Tomb Raider Game, Crystal Dynamics are soon to release two downloadable character packs, one of them set to comprise of everyone’s favourite sociopathic heist-merchants. While it’s obviously a (hopefully) last, desperate attempt on behalf of publisher Eidos to make people care about Kane & Lynch, this does bode mass comedy potential. Even better, there’s also the promise of a second pack, bringing back Raziel and Kain, of the supremely why-haven’t-we-got-another-sequel-yet Soul Reaver series.

There are new challenge packs coming too, but seriously, Raziel and Kain…

Anyway, we have the first, big, high-res screen of Kane and Lynch doing their Tomb Raiding thing right over the jump, as well as a couple of videos. You know you need to check it out.

Guwange (Review)

Posted on December 03, 2010

Cave is a developer who has been gaining more traction outside of its homeland of Japan as of late. It specializes in the niche of crazy “bullet-hell” shooting games – the sort of title where fire fills the screen and finding out how to just barely scrape by a bullet barrage is every bit as important – if not moreso – than returning fire. While we’ve only seen a handful of their more recent releases like Deathsmiles and ESPGaluda II in North America so far, they also have a large back catalog of Japan-exclusive arcade games that have never been transplanted to consoles. That’s beginning to change with Guwange, a 1999 arcade release seeing new life on Xbox Live Arcade…

Three secret Nintendo games incoming. Clues point to online content, surprisingly (Nintendo 3DS)

Posted on December 02, 2010

Nintendo, as we all know, are one of the most arcane and secretive companies around. Seemingly the only big publisher in video games still largely able to prevent information leaks (provided you’re still cynicism-free enough to believe leaks only ever happen by accident), it lets nothing out until it’s absolutely ready.

Current case in point: Three new first-party games that have turned up on the Australian ratings board’s website. With their titles masked out. 001002 and 003, as they’re currently officially known, were rated yesterday, the 29th of November, and have been awarded a G, PG and G rating respectively. Why the secrecy? Well ratings boards (and retail, come to mention it) have a notorious habit of blowing secret announcements early. And with the 3DS due out early next year, I’d guess Nintendo have plenty of secret announcements on the way…

What’s that you say? You want more details? Well…

Super Street Fighter IV : Dubious Achievement leak 'confirms' new characters, schoolboy error teases possible fakery (Super Street Fighter IV)

Posted on November 29, 2010

Okay, I’m not sure if this is genuine, but if it is, someone at Capcom has messed up. If it isn’t, someone faking a leak has messed up, but they’ve messed up in a way so flagrant as to look too stupid to be a mess-up, thereby making it all look more genuine. That make sense? Good.

A list of supposed new Achievements for Super Street Fighter IV has appeared, along with matching icons. They seem to indicate that the arcade version’s Yun and Yang will be making the jump to the original home version of the game, along with Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma. Only problem? Four of the Achievements are currently listed as having the same criteria. Now who’d mess that up?

Look at the pictures over the jump and let me know what you think.

GamesRadar guides: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood treasure maps, flags, artifacts and Black Ops Intel (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood)

Posted on November 27, 2010

Happy Turkey Day weekend folks! To those of you not in the US, happy Saturday. With the weather getting even more frigid and your gut full of sleep-inducing tryptophan, what better time than now to sit down with some games? Especially if you’re now sitting on top of a new pile of goodies you picked up at the Black Friday sales; assuming you weren’t trampled to death. Nothing better than a little escapism to help you forget your aunt and uncle’s gross make out session after 5 too many glasses of wine at Thanksgiving dinner. If you’re not from the States just assume I made a great joke about Football or something there.

New Resident Evil set to shuffle into Spike's Video Game Awards if teasers images are to be believed (Resident Evil 6)

Posted on November 26, 2010

If you enjoy sinking bullets into the skulls of living challenged souls, then you’ll no know doubt be excited to hear a new Resident Evil could be unveiled at Spike’s Video Game Awards next month. Well, that’s if a teaser video briefly showing the Biohazard logo (Resi’s title in Japan) is anything to go by. Gamerzines has also unearthed further t-shirt-based evidence (no, really), which hints at an announcement on the survival horror series being forthcoming…

The 7 lamest Madden NFL innovations (Madden NFL 11)

Posted on November 26, 2010

Every August, a new Madden NFL hits store shelves. And every August, people moan and wail about how similar this year’s Madden is to its previous incarnations (hey, we’re guilty of it too). But we shouldn’t, really. The truth is that the gang at EA has tried lots of innovations over the 20-plus years they’ve been making the game. We love them for it, and plenty of the added features have been great. But we’ve also seen our share of failed experiments – especially in the PS3/360 generation. This is a countdown of those “innovations” we wish would’ve stayed on the bench…

iPhone/iPad game of the day: Solipskier (Solipskier)

Posted on November 25, 2010

There are plenty of games that have you drawing your own path and plenty of games that task you with running as far as possible before crashing. But Solipskier might just be the first that combines the two. And it does it with a solid dose of unique style, complete with a monochromatic color scheme, rainbow capes, and a rocking soundtrack…

Is this trailer for the new SSX? Or maybe Battlefield 3? We can't decide yet (Xbox 360)

Posted on November 24, 2010

Okay, you know how I feel about the whole “teasing a teaser for a teaser of a teaser” thing. But in this case I can’t help fuelling the whole sorryseld-perpetuating hype cycle. Why? Because there’s a chance SSX could be involved. And you know how I feel about SSX.

We’ll find out for definite at the Spike TV Video Game Awards next month, but for now, watch the vid and let me know what you think. You’ll find a few more details and notables over the jump too.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (Review)

Posted on November 24, 2010

A worthy successor to the Golden Sun legacy (yes, two GBA games can equal a legacy, if they’re beloved enough), Golden Sun: Dark Dawn takes everything we loved about the first two games and refines it, if predictably, into a polished RPG experience that, like the first two, is equal parts tradition and innovation. It looks gorgeous, and the djinn system is even better than before…

F1 2010 meets OutRun: Video mashup (F1 2010)

Posted on November 23, 2010

I love F1 2010. But I also love OutRun. Sadly, it’s impossible to play them both at the same time – thumbs get tangled, engine noises clash… it just isn’t going to work. But what if the two were combined? What if you could play a single lap of Sao Paulo, overtaking the entire field with Magical Sound Shower blaring from the speakers? Driving a Ferrari, of course. Well, we’ve made that a reality. Just for one fleeting moment of racing perfection.

Think iPhone and other mobile devices aren't relevant to videogames? You’re wrong (iPhone)

Posted on November 20, 2010

There’s a mutiny afoot. A revolt among the proletariat, who refuse to swallow the propaganda of their oppressive masses. Basically, people are sick of hearing about mobile gaming. Be it the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Android or even the newly unleashed Windows Phone 7, many gamers cannot understand why their favorite gaming news sources are chatting so much about expensive novelty items that aren’t “real” gaming consoles. They simply don’t understand why these products are relevant to videogames…

Tony Hawk Shred now 'for kids' and 'gift-oriented' says Activision. What the hell happened, Tony? (Tony Hawk: Ride)

Posted on November 19, 2010

As we reported earlier this week, Tony Hawk’s Shred sold 3,000 copies in its first week in the US. But fear not! Activision has announced its cunning plan to get the most from the game this holiday season. It’s aiming the game at ‘kids’, and calling it ‘gift-oriented’. In other words, it’s hoping parents who don’t know better will buy the game for their offspring. Where did it all go wrong? Let’s take a look back and see.
