The Winner of the Create a Track Contest is…

Posted on February 15, 2011

It took a bit longer than expected but Azlan and Marc have finally picked the winner of the Need for Speed World Create a Track contest.  Congratulations to Joshdw who submitted a track called ‘TWIST ROAD':

Azlan and Marc felt that this circuit track is a good length, has lots of difficult corners and a nice section to get up your car to its max speed.  As soon as we release the upcoming Team Escape mode Azlan is going to build the track and get it into the game for everyone to race on!

Here are some honorable mentions for tracks that Azlan and Marc liked but not enough to be the winner:

“BCR Interchange 3.1”  by WodanBCR-Crew

“Around the World” by Name Withheld

“Roundabout” by HazewinDog

Thank you to everyone who participated in this contest. We were absolutely amazed at the number of entries we received! So much so that I think that we should run this contest again some time…

Refer your Facebook Friends and get exclusive vinyls free

Posted on February 11, 2011

If you have a lot of Facebook friends who haven’t tried Need for Speed World yet it’s time to try out the new Refer a Friend tool and earn a reward for yourself in the process. To make referrals really simple we’ve released a new tool to suggest to your Facebook friends they take Need for Speed World out for a spin.

Refer as many friends as you like. The more people you refer, and they register, the better the reward you will receive. We’re starting the process slowly and setting a small target so it only takes three friends registering for an account to trigger the first reward… the Valentine Vinyls. You can track your referral progress on the Referral page so check back often and see how close you are to receiving the exclusive vinyls. As soon as you see three or more friends have registered the vinyls will automatically be unlocked in the game; simply login, go to the Customization screen, enter the Vinyl Shop and you’ll see the Valentine section.

NEW IN-GAME STORE OUT NOW

Posted on February 10, 2011

Hardcore Need for Speed World gamers may have noticed the introduction of the new in-game store in our latest patch. We’ve built a brand new in-game store so instead of having to visit the website every time you want to buy some new Powerups or to pick up the latest Car releases you’re always just one click away from the new in-game store.

To enter the store click on the SpeedBoost Store sign at the top right corner of the page. We’ve kept the design of the store very minimal to make it as simple as possible so you can see a range of tabs across the top. When you click one of these it’ll reload the page and update with the specific offers. When we designed the store we wanted to be able to offer you more help when you’re deciding which cars to buy. Now when you click on the image of each car the store will open a new window with a larger shot of the car and the all important Handling, Acceleration and Top Speed stats.

Introducing the In-Game Store doesn’t mean an end to the Web Store however as we will be continuing to support both stores and will keep offering cool, exclusive content across both.

CES 2011 Wrap Up

Posted on January 11, 2011

After a hectic few days, CES 2011 is finally over! Here’s a quick report on Need For Speed World’s presence at the world’s largest annual consumer technology tradeshow.

At the Dolby booth in the Las Vegas Convention Centre where CES was being held, Need For Speed World headlined the gaming aspects of Dolby’s multi-faceted showcase. Visitors queued to compete against each other in private multiplayer races on the live server, while voice chatting via headsets with microphones. Despite all the noise on the show floor, players had no problems receiving instructions from the Dolby coordinator, and were having tons of fun chatting with one another while racing.

At the same time, Dolby also held a special event called the Dolby Definition Lounge at the famous “Rain man” suite in Caesar’s Palace to showcase their latest PC and home entertainment technologies to exclusive members of the media. Here, the stylish gaming corner gave them the chance to race against players on the show floor as well.

In addition, the massive Intel booth also featured Need For Speed World as their showcase playable game for laptop gaming with 4G.

So stay tuned, voice chat is coming soon to Need For Speed World, and it’s going to be a blast!

The Winners of the NFS World Holiday Greetings Card Contest are…

Posted on January 08, 2011

With so many entries into this contest it took Eduardo and Jude quite a while to review the entries and pick the winners. With any further ado the winners are:

The overall winner is Richard

His card had a soft, magical vibe that stood out nicely. Nice graphic treatment with the border and some Photoshop additions to the scene made this a very festive and unique card.

The best holiday greetings card that used the ‘Snowflake’ Edition Porsche 911 Turbo and therefore the winner is Andrei xD

Snowflake car in front of Little Italy’s Merry Christmas sign AND a group shot! Nice depth of field!

Congratulations to the winners of the Need for Speed World Holiday Greetings Card contest!

There were so many great entries and it was really difficult for Ed & Jude to pick the winners.  Some of the entries were so good that they wanted to make sure to give some honorable mentions for the following entries:

Tweaked the contrast, added some nice embellishments at the bottom and  lots of bright lights!

Some nice text added in perspective to match the scene. Nice and bold.

Very original presentation!

Some really great shots! Tons of photos!

Another one that made us laugh out loud. Loved the little touches. The presents next to the snow blower as well as the guy holding the machine. And the TREE crossing sign over on the left. Lots of humor and effort.

Great action and some hot bloom! Loved the type treatment for its festive nature.

We LOVED the vintage look. One of our favorites.

Lots of great images, cool light streaks and bold text. Very well done!

This had to get a shout out just because someone put Drew on the side of their car!! How or why he did this, I have no idea, but we got a good laugh.

We liked the simplicity of it with a very effective type treatment. Clean graphic design! Not as festive as the others, but it did catch our eye.

Throwback to Carbon and Underground 2. I feel like the car is glowing!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Holiday Greetings Card contest!
