Secrets, News, Tips, Guides, Cheats and MoreSOCOM 4 hands-on multiplayer preview: new mode, beta plans revealed (SOCOM 4)
Posted on March 08, 2011Back in January, we got what we thought was a pretty comprehensive look at what’s in store for SOCOM 4’s multiplayer. We saw the new additions, like cover, regenerating health and airstrikes; we leveled up our weapons to unlock new mods; and we quickly learned that, regenerating health or no, one or two well-aimed shots are usually enough to make you dead. But as we found out during GDC, there were two things developer Zipper was holding back from us…

InFamous 2 preview: User-generated chaos
Posted on March 04, 2011Before presenting the latest milestone in the development of InFamous 2 at GDC today, Sucker Punch Productions development director Chris Zimmerman told his captive audience, “What we saw as the biggest problem with InFamous was that, at some point, it ended.” That won’t be an issue in this sequel, thanks to user-generated content.
Zimmerman says that the developer has planned to integrate user-created missions from the outset, keeping the feature secret for two years. “That’s hard to do,” he said with laugh.
Players will have access to “All of the good guys, all of the bad guys, all of the props that we built for the game — vehicles, weapons and other stuff — and then a whole bunch of special stuff we built just for making user-generated content,” he confirmed. “
We figured we’d throw that all out there and let people create, because we think there are lots of people out there that dream of being a game designer, and this is our opportunity to give them the opportunity to share what they can do. To take all of this content we’ve built over the past two years and putting it together to make something we never thought possible.”

The Witcher 2 preview: Cause and effect
Posted on February 24, 2011Polish developer CD Projekt charmed a lot of PC-playing RPG fans with its first game, The Witcher, and now the studio is using that solid foundation to build the sequel, subtitled Assassins of Kings. The first game used a heavily modified Aurora Engine (from BioWare’s Neverwinter Nights series), but The Witcher 2 runs on a new graphical engine of CD Projekt’s own design and features a revamped combat system.
At a recent meeting with the developer, I played through one of The Witcher 2′s sidequests, which amounted to roughly an hour’s worth of gametime. It was enough of an introduction to convince me that if you liked the first game, you’ll enjoy the second. There’s not a lot of innovation in the sequel, but CD Projekt again proves itself to be a skilled developer of the PC RPG.

Knights Contract Preview
Posted on February 20, 2011
Namco Bandai’s Knights Contract comes out on the 22, but do you know if the game is right for you? Maybe a gameplay clip would help educate you in your decision, but if one gameplay video isn’t enough, how about six?
Knights Contract is about an experienced witch hunter named Heinrich Hofmann who becomes cursed with immortality. When Hofmann meets Gretchen – a young woman who is the reincarnation of a witch Hofmann once killed – the gentle giant decides to protect the young woman, and turn against his former commander.
Watch Heinrich get torn to shreds before stitching himself back together, run from a monster with a whale-sized mouth, and eviscerate like a hundred doodz in the following videos.

Diablo 3 PvP Preview
Posted on February 08, 2011
There are a few things that PC gamers get to look forward to in life. One is a comfy chair, another is taking that brand new mouse or keyboard out of the box, and the third is getting to play Diablo 3. Kevin Kelly recently went to Blizzard’s HQ in Irvine to try out Diablo 3′s PvP mode, and let’s just say I’m a little bit jealous.
“While the build was the same as it was at BlizzCon last year, seeing it up close and personal shows the potential of putting the Arena system into the game. Toiling and grinding through the realms of Diablo can become pretty tedious, and sometimes you’ll need a place to vent that frustration. This is perfect for that outlet, and it trains you in the effective use of your skills and abilities as well. Think of it as the X-Men’s Danger Room or the training simulation from the Matrix, without all the holograms and fakery.”
For more info behind Diablo 3′s PvP arena mode, check out our in depth preview.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D preview
Posted on January 20, 2011Nothing does a better job of upgrading a game’s graphics than your memory. There’s something about the PS1/N64 era of games that makes us remember them better than they actually looked. The 3DS version of Ocarina of Time is unquestionably a better looking game than its predecessor, with new textures, new character models, better lighting, and a new widescreen aspect ratio. So, why does Ocarina of Time still look so dated?
Although Nintendo has updated the visuals of the N64 classic, it hasn’t changed enough to shake off the N64 origins — and the new sheen of paint can’t help it compete with the other games that were present at the 3DS preview event, like Resident Evil. The 3D effect also seems relatively muted, even with the toggle set to the maximum settings. Its shortcomings make me realize that I wouldn’t mind seeing a more thorough remake, one that truly pushes the 3DS’ graphical capabilities.
But for most, Zelda isn’t about the visuals, and the gameplay is just as you remember it.
