Minecraft Headed to iOS Devices This Year

Indie megastar Minecraft will be released for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad later this year, Gamasutra reports. Rip-offs and clones of Mojang’s dig ‘em up have been made for Apple’s magical consumer electronics devices before, but nothing official.

Mojang founder Markus ‘Notch’ Persson explained to Gamasutra that the iOS version won’t necessarily receive all the same updates as the original version, which is still in beta, but rather only features which “make sense” for the touch-screen devices. The port is being handle…

Bulletstorm PC Demo Coming After Launch

While Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners have been able to play a Bulletstorm demo for almost a month now, PC gamers were given the cold shoulder. Thankfully, there’s now word that the poor lambs will also get to try out People Can Fly and Epic’s shooter.

Video Games Intersect Social Networks at D.I.C.E.

Some of the brightest minds in the video game world discussed the industry’s rapidly growing relationship with social media at this year’s D.I.C.E. Summit. Mark Cerny, whose career stretches back to designing arcade games in the 80’s, broached the subject in broad terms during his talk titled “The End of Death, the Crash of 1982 and Other Topics.”

In it, he discussed the challenge of unlearning habits and moving forward in changing times. As an example he cited how even today designers struggle to break free from the artificial requirement that a player die many, many times which is a holdover from arcade games needing to keep players paying the next quarter. Blizzard to Release ‘Minimum’ of 2 Games in 2012, if None in 2011

If you’ve been saving up your pennies for Diablo 3 or StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, don’t smash the piggy bank just yet. At its Q4 2010 earnings call, Activision said it is unable to confirm the release of any Blizzard titles this year, but that could mean two or more for 2012.

Rift Open Beta Begins Next Week

Following a string of closed beta events where invitations were handed out by the bucketload, a properly open beta test for Trion Worlds’ MMORPG Rift will kick off on February 15 then run until February 21, the developer has announced.

Players will be able to check out the first 42 character levels from the PC MMORPG, across several PvP warfronts and a variety of zones and dungeons.

Battlefield 3 Teaser Trailer and First Details Arrive

Battlefield fans, commence getting excited. Developer DICE today released a teaser trailer for its long, long-awaited Battlefield 3, along with a small trickle of details.

Battlefield 3 will boast single-player and co-op campaigns in addition to its trademark multiplayer, DICE revealed. Built upon DICE’s new engine Frostbite 2, it’ll also see jets and prone return to the series, not to mention 64-player multiplayer in the PC edition.

Pink Knight Coming to Castle Crashers for Breast Cancer Awareness

Heavy Rain Movie Adapted by ‘Deadwood’ Creator

First Three Blizzard-designed StarCraft 2 Custom Games Go Live

Three new Blizzard-created StarCraft 2 game modes are now available for beta testing on Battle.net. Called Aiur Chef, StarJeweled, and Left 2 Die, respectively, the new game modes can be found by navigating to the custom game area after logging into StarCraft 2. The new modes are all in beta status, and, per the usual, Blizzard is soliciting feedback from the community.

Everyone who buys Uber Entertainment’s DotA-ish class-based shooter before February 1 will receive bonus items for Valve’s Team Fortress 2 plus TF2 items to wear in Monday Night Combat. Yes, there are new hats for you to covet.

As the Steam store page details, all TF2 classes get to slip on a Monday Night Combat cap while the TF2 Scout receives the stylish accessories of MNC mascot Bullseye. Each MNC Pro, meanwhile, receives fitting tinkets worn by a TF2 class.
