The Future Of Mortal Kombat DLC: Who Should Be Included Next?

Posted on April 30, 2011

We’ve been graced with something that rarely happens: a sequel that is totally amazing in almost every possible way.  I’m of course referring to the new installment of Mortal Kombat which offers some of the best fighting and most enjoyable fighting I’ve ever experienced in a game. One of the big reasons that the new Mortal Kombat game is such a hit in my eyes is because the game is packed with content like treasure trove that is the Krpyt, a fan pleasing Story Mode and bonus goodies like the addicting but sometimes brutal Challenge Tower.

Depth Offers An Intense Battle of Sharks vs. Divers

Posted on April 28, 2011

I may be a bit late to the party about this, but I’ve just come across a game that is not only entirely original, but also takes a genre and literally takes it to new depths of excitement.  Most games in general tend to take place either on the land or in a few cases the sky. It’s very rare that we see a game that either features a water component or is set in some sort of water based world. But the new action game Depth takes players to a place they’ve never been to before and in the process offers not just one, but two new ways to actually experience a game.

Say Hallelujah for the New Duke Nukem Forever Trailer

Posted on April 21, 2011

After 12 long years of waiting for the Duke to make his triumphant return to gaming, I figure waiting a few more weeks for the final release of Duke Nukem Forever on June 14th won’t really be that bad. So far we are doing quite well with the extra waiting time but another delay would definitely erode my patience big time.

With June 14th still a way off, Gearbox Software has release a new awesome trailer featuring the Dukeness himself, some new gameplay footage, strippers and some accolades from various gaming news sources. Complex magazine!?

Warner Brothers Appears To Be Making A New Multiplayer Focused Batman Game

Posted on April 11, 2011

Warner Brothers could be doing what may be considered blasphemy amongst gamers: they could be making a comic book inspired Batman game without Rocksteady at the helm. Yes, I know such a thing may be shocking enough that you either lost your breath or performed a Batman style falcon punch to your computer monitor, but just stay with me for a bit before you go into gamer rage mode so I can fill you in on the details.

SSX: Deadly Descents Gets A Name Change + New BTS Video

Posted on April 09, 2011

When Electronic Arts unveiled their SSX reboot last December at the Spike Video Game Awards, the reception amongst gamers was about as icy as one of the treacherous mountain peaks that are featured in the game.  Gamers were far from thrilled upon seeing SSX: Deadly Descents and instead of fist bumping or high-fiving their fellow gamers, loyal SSX fans were instead readying their pitchforks to show EA what they really thought of the game.

Max Payne 3 Details Emerge, Sound Like They Have Potential

Posted on April 04, 2011

After opting to stay coy for nearly two years, Rockstar Games surprised us all last week by unveiling three new images from Max Payne 3. No, Rockstar wasn’t fooling us with an almost twisted April’s Fools’ Day prank as the images were legit and were a tease of an impending reveal.  Of course we didn’t have a clue as to when Rockstar was planning to fill us in on the long in development Max Payne 3, but thankfully Edge managed to get the details on the long awaited return of everyone’s favorite tortured police officer.

Johnny Cage Shows Why He’s So Awesome In This New Mortal Kombat Video

Posted on April 04, 2011

Fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise all know that when it comes to being totally cocky and too egotistical that no one trumps Johnny Cage.  The man that’s supposed to be a riff on the Hollywood action stars that we love has been a fan-favorite character since he first appeared in MK1, way back in 1992.  Since debuting as a somewhat obvious parody on Jean-Claude Van Damme, Johnny Cage has since blossomed to become a character whose one-liners and attitude is completely unrivaled by anything we’ve seen before, whether it’s a real person or a completely fictitious one.

New F.E.A.R. 3 Trailer Teaches; With Family You’ll Never Face Fear Alone

Posted on March 30, 2011

Another creepy trailer has been released for the upcoming paranormal horror first-person shooter, F.E.A.R. 3 from Day 1 Studios.

The new trailer showcases the lovely family of Alma Wade and her two sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel and the horrific circumstances that binds them all. A rather spooky family ensemble tailor made to appear on an episode of the Jerry Springer Show.

F.E.A.R. 3 is shaping up quite nicely to give Dead Space 2 some serious competition for the scariest video game of 2011.

Unaired Top Spin 4 Commercial Featuring Serena Williams Is Leaked, Almost Completely Shameful

Posted on March 22, 2011

Sometimes I see things that make me wonder about the direction the video game industry is taking. No, I’m not referring to how or if publishers should further promote indie games or how they should improve their promotion of digitally distributed games but am rather distraught about some of the advertising that has come out of the video game industry. Sometimes we get advertising that would make Don Draper a happy man but sometimes we get advertising that’s either so silly or jaw droppingly bad that it’s almost shocking that it ever passed the initial pitch stage.

Uncharted 3 Has An Unlikely Villain [Video]

Posted on March 20, 2011

The Uncharted series has always done a rather excellent job at giving us good villains.  Instead of having a somewhat outlandish baddie, we’ve faced off against guys who were either ruthless or insane but never quite reached cartoon type levels of insanity.  Uncharted is basically a pulp novel or comic book come to life but the series thankfully hasn’t stayed too close to its pulp nature by giving us villains who really aren’t interesting at all.

Prey 2 Details Sound Intriguing, Not A Complete Dudebro Adaptation + A Teaser Trailer

Posted on March 15, 2011

Yesterday it seemed like the dudebro era element in gaming had officially reached every possible facet as the sequel to Prey seemingly appeared to be going in an unlikely direction.  Despite only seeing a mere cover for a magazine, seeing the supposed hero of Prey 2 left a somewhat bad taste in mouths of those looking forward to the game.

Fallen Frontier Combines Detailed Visuals With Simple 2D Gameplay [Video]

Posted on March 13, 2011

We’re never in short supply of 2D side-scrolling shooting games so what’s the harm in getting another title for XBLA and possibly the PSN? I know my otherwise sarcastic tone is indicative of the sometimes jaded vibe I give off, but I think we may have a title to keep our eye on in the form of Fallen Frontier.  Coming to us from Moonshot Games (which consists of former Bungie staffers) Fallen Frontier has all the familiar trappings of a standard side-scrolling action game, but for all we know it could end up being this year’s surprise hit like Shadow Complex was two years ago.

Bulletstorm [Review]

Posted on March 09, 2011

Overall Feeling:

While lacking a few features, the game campaign alone makes this game worth everything it costs.

ShogunGamer.com Rating :
8

I’ve never played a game that so encouraged shooting people in the balls. Bulletstorm not only encourages it, but rewards it. In fact, some of the hardest shots in the game require some serious punishment to the ‘funzone.’ A good thirty minutes of my time was spent with the sniper rifle, guiding bullets into testicles. The AI made sure it was hard too, because nutshots were more protected against than having their head blown off. Despite all that, Bulletstorm happens to be one of the highest quality FPS games to come out in the recent set of releases.

GDC 2011: Halcyon

Posted on March 08, 2011

The Indie game booth is one of the largest ones at GDC this year and there are a few games being shown that really stand out. For me, one of the stand-out games was Halcyon, a puzzle game for the iPad. Mobile gaming is not my usual preference, but seeing this game really made me want to play it and I’m really glad that I did.

An Update On The Dead Nation Patch + A Small Tease

Posted on March 06, 2011

Last year was a rather good year for PSN gamers with titles such as Tumble and Soldner-X 2 making a splash on Sony’s service and providing highly entertaining gameplay.  Amongst the key releases we saw last year, one standout was the zombie action title Dead Nation from developer Housemarque.  Despite being another twin-stick shooter, Dead Nation …

Stash Your Playstation Move Controllers in Style With Nyko’s Charge Station.

Posted on March 03, 2011

Overall Feeling:

The slickest Move charger we’ve seen so far. Works just as good as it looks!

ShogunGamer.com Rating :
10

One of my biggest annoyances with the Playstation Move is controller management. The round design of the controllers makes them awkward to store and charging them is a huge hassle. If you have a newer PS3, you only have two USB ports, so charging four controllers is not possible, and having to rely on a PC or other USB source for charging is not so convienent. Thankfully Nyko has developed an incredibly slick solution to your PS3 Move controller woes .
