SSX: Deadly Descents Gets A Name Change + New BTS Video

Posted on April 09, 2011

When Electronic Arts unveiled their SSX reboot last December at the Spike Video Game Awards, the reception amongst gamers was about as icy as one of the treacherous mountain peaks that are featured in the game.  Gamers were far from thrilled upon seeing SSX: Deadly Descents and instead of fist bumping or high-fiving their fellow gamers, loyal SSX fans were instead readying their pitchforks to show EA what they really thought of the game.

SSX: Deadly Descents Revealed

Posted on December 13, 2010

Electronic Arts First Quarter Loss Only $6 MillionSSX: Deadly Descents was revealed via a brief trailer at tonight’s VGA awards. The snowboarding sequel from Electronic Arts will use real-world locations where players can test their boarding mettle, in contrast to previous, cartoony SSX titles, like classic snowboarding game SSX: Tricky. No word yet on a release date.

So what do you guys think about the idea of a harder-edged, more realistic SSX game? I’m a huge fan of Tricky, so I’m taking a wait-and-see approach. The visuals from the video look impressive, but this one is going to come down to how well it plays. It’s snowboarding, after all, so it better feel like hurtling down a huge mountain, am I right?

But after the mediocre SSX 4, EA seemingly revoked the ski pass for the franchise – that is until now.

Okay, you know how I feel about the whole “teasing a teaser for a teaser of a teaser” thing. But in this case I can’t help fuelling the whole sorryseld-perpetuating hype cycle. Why? Because there’s a chance SSX could be involved. And you know how I feel about SSX.

We’ll find out for definite at the Spike TV Video Game Awards next month, but for now, watch the vid and let me know what you think. You’ll find a few more details and notables over the jump too.
